LOOK WHO'S BACK WITH THE WESTLIFE BOYS!
BRIAN McFadden has buried the hatchet with his former Westlife bandmates.
The band, who are currently recording their new album in Los Angeles, met up with the solo singer for dinner earlier this week -- and there wasn't an ounce of tension in sight.
Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan dined with the outspoken singer at Hollywood's exclusive Nobu restaurant, an essential haunt for local and visiting celebrities
And there was no insult swapping as they dined at the plush eatery, owned by Eva Longoria.
Brian was so excited at the reunion that he posted a picture of himself with Kian, Mark and Mark's boyfriend Kevin Fielding, accompanied with the tag: "My new boyband. Looking for a fifth member".
McFadden unexpectedly left the band in 2004 in a bid to embark on a solo career, and his former bandmates have made it perfectly clear that he is no longer welcome to sing with them -- but he is still one of the lads.
Kian quashed any suggestion that he would be welcomed with open arms again -- when he said that they would "never" take him back two years ago.
"He left the group and you can't expect us to take him back," he said. "I told him: 'You're never going to be in Westlife again. Accept it'!"
And just last month, McFadden echoed their statement, saying he would not want to rejoin the band because he would be little more than a "backing singer".
"I see the guys a lot, we speak on the phone and stuff. We've talked about it, but we're so different now from what we were then.
"I was even looking at the way Robbie's going back to Take That. When they do a gig, Robbie doesn't sing anything, he's just going to be a backing singer with Take That.
"I was like 'I wouldn't want to do that now' because they've made singles and albums," he said.
But the war or words has finally ended and both parties have put the past behind them for a catch up.
As McFadden attempts to crack the notoriously difficult US market, the foursome are living it up in LA, where they are staying for the next week as they lay down tracks for their next album.
And Brian's desire to break the US might not be as impossible as previously thought -- he recently bragged on his Twitter account about mingling with hitmaker Kevin Rudolf, who has worked with Lil Wayne, Flo Rida and Black Eyed Peas, at an LA club. The pair recently worked together on McFadden's latest single, Just Say So.

Westlife IN! magazine interview
Take From: IN! magazine
In fairness to the security guard who was keeping me standing in the pouring rain, I'm sure he's heard the claim a million times before. Although I doubt he's heard it from too many 32-year-old men.
I'm standing at the Odyssey Arena VIP entrance trying to convince a burly bodyguard that I'm not in fact a crazed-boy-band stalker and that Louis Walsh and Westlife hunk Shane Filan really do want me to join them in their ultra-exclusive backstage hideaway.
He's not buying it: 'If you just go in and find either of them I'm sure they will explain everything,' I urge him, brushing the beads of rain from my foarhead and breaking into a shiver. This wasn't what I had in mind when was promised I'd be living the showbiz highlife with the biggest pop band on the planet.
But there's no budging him as he fixes his ice stare and announces: 'That's between you and them. I can't move from this spot and neither you can.'
It doesn't help that I'm surrounded by around a hundred screaming teenagers who, at every opportunity, are grabbing at my arms and begging me to get them autographs, should I finally break through the wall of security and make it to the other side.
Suddenly my phone rings: 'Hey Paul, it's Shane,' announces the soft voice in that familiar Sligo twang. 'I'm coming out to get you now.'
A few seconds later the door edges slowly open, no more than an inch, and from behind the devide Shane shouts out towards the moody big man who is now the only obstacle between me and Westlife world. 'It's OK - that's Paul Martin, he's friend of ours. Let him in.'
Open sesame! I suddenly have a beautiful shiny Westlife AAA laminate thrown around my neck as I break free from the masses of girls who are now convulsing at the prospect of me joining the lads in person on their comeback tour. 'Oh my Gooooooood,' screeches one poor girl, bursting into tears as she grabs my arm, 'Tell Shane I love him. Tell him, tell him!'
Suddenly, in contrast to the chaos outside, there is nothing but silence. Shane emerges from the wings, shakes my hand and leads me into a sort of Westlife wonderland.
He walks me past their dressing rooms, which are meticulously decked out in soft scented candles, towels and energy drinks. In another room the stars' wives (and boyfriend) chat about all the mindane happenings of the day as their children whizz around the room playing around on micro scooters.
'Wait till you see this,' Shane announces, opening another door to a huge Westlife canteen, where a team of top chiefs are busily preparing their favourite foods to order.
Then the unmistakable voice of Louis Walsh comes bellowing down the corridor: 'Oh look, it's Paul,' he announces to the rest of the Westlife boys who are gathered around him hanging on the pop guru's every word.
He dashes over and proudly shows me his phone, where he has my number saved under the heading: 'Paul Martin - sort of journalist.' The cheeky beggar.
After my grand tour of Westlife's hideaway, it's time to get down to business. The lads congregate in Shane's dressing room and give me an hour to discover all for IN! magazine.
Well, lads, you have been away for a year. Are you thrilled to be back or missing the easy life already?
Mark: Well we are actually all quite tired - but only because we've been working so hard in rehearsals to get this show right.
Kian: We are totally pumped up to be back on stage and we had more time than ever to rehearse and get this thing right. I think after a few months of being off on our break we all started missing the music business and we were twitching to get back.
Since we last saw you, Kian, you tied the knot in Barbados with Jodi Albert. No babies on the horizon yet?
Kian: Definitely not yet. Jodi is busy with Wonderland - our new girl band that Louis and I are co-managing, so there will be no children just yet. We've been working on the band for nearly two years and we're officially launching them on this tour, so it's a massive thing for us. I think these girls could go a long way. But Jodi and I still make plenty of time for each other outside the music business. We have to remember we have a marriage to think of as well as two bands!
You are back in Belfast kicking off your comeback after 18 months away. Was the big break all you expected it to be?
Nicky: When I was in Westlife, time had become my biggest luxury and suddenly I had loads of it. There are things that you give up when you are in a band but suddenly I could do them all. We did all that in our year off. And then, by the end of that year, we were desperate to start again. So being back here in Belfast is just incredible and it's something we have all been yearning for for a while.
Eleven years on from your first single, do you not finding that you are always falling out when you are on the road together?
Shane: To be honest we are getting on better than ever. I think we've all grown up a lot since the early days of the band. We all have families now and our own lives outside the band, so that means when we get back together it's like being back with your mates and we enjoy every second of it. If we disagree on something we are very democratice - we put it to a vote. Whoever has the majority gets their way.
As a band you've always had a soft spot for Belfast, so where do you hang out when you are here.
Mark: It's kind of weird because this time we all are in different hotels. I'm in Malmaison, while Shane is in the Hilton because he likes the gym in there and Kian and Nicky are in the Radisson. But we are all planning to go for dinner in the Malmaison while we are here. We don't really go out clubbing, but I was in Victoria Square earlier and I also met up with Kian's wife Jodi and we went into House Of Fraser. I got Jodi a birthday present there.
It must be a challenge to keep things fresh after eleven years together. Did you look at Take That and learn from how they re-invented themselves?
Shane: Definitely. They really took it to a new level and it made us realise you can in a boy band beyond the age of 30 and still be reveland. You can't take it away from Gary Barlow, he is an amazing songwriter. With songs that strong you will always stand the test of time.
You are all looking rather buff. Are you all fitness freaks?
Kian: I don't really hit the gym, but Shane is into it in a massive way. He works out four or five times a week. We all try and eat pretty well when we are on tour and Shane organises a personal trainer if we ever want a good blow out in the gym. Nobody wants to see four big fat pop stars up there plodding around the stage.
What's it like having Simon Cowell as a boss. I would imagine he's quite demanding?
Nicky: That's something we never shy away from. He's the most powerful man in the music, and that opens a lot of doors. He's always been great with us. When you are in a room with Simon Cowell you can have a debate about what songs you should and shouldn't do, but at the end of it all he usually wins - he is Simon Cowell after all. He knows the music business inside out and he has helped us reach the top. Having Simon Cowell in your camp is a massive advantage and we owe so much to him.
You've all made your millions and live incredible lifestyles. Can you still enjoy the normal things in life or does it all have to be bling bling now?
Nicky: I was out with my mates during the year off. We'd been out, had a proper and mad night, and we were walking back from a pub we had been in, when a lad came up to me. He said, 'I know you, you shouldn't be round here, you should be in the bling bling bars'. It made me laugh. I'm not really one of that whole celeb lifestyle. I'd rather be in an ordinary pub or a bar than somewhere bling bling.
Shane: My biggest passions, beside my family, are golf and snooker. So you don't need millions to be able to play those sports! It's the simple things in life that are the best.
SINGER TO DEVELOP E5M NURSING HOME
WESTLIFE SINGER Shane Filan and his brother Finbar are to develop a ¤5 million nursing home at Knappagh Road on the edge of Sligo town.
The project has been given the go-ahead by An Bord Pleanála with 14 conditions attached to meet objections from neighbouring residents¢ associations.
The home is set to be completed by June next year.
The state-of-the-art building is one of a multimillion euro set of development projects the singer is set to start in his Sligo home area, which he says could create up to 300 jobs for local people.
The brothers are also set to start work on a new 50-bed nursing home in Dromahair, Co Leitrim, and on a new residential and retail complex near Shane¢s luxury home at Carraroe, outside Sligo town.
The brothers, who run construction company Shafin, say they are preparing for an end to the recession and to meet a growing demand from an ageing population for more nursing homes.
Shafin, like others in the construction industry, was left with a number of unsold properties from an earlier development in Dromahair.
But the singer said “positive things” were beginning to happen. “We¢ve sold over a dozen houses in Dromahair in recent months. That proves the banks are beginning to loosen the purse strings and people are becoming a bit more positive.
“We firmly believe that it needs to be local people who get Sligo moving again,” he said.
WESTLIFE NURSING HOME TO GO AHEAD
An Bord Pleanala has approved the ¤5m nursing home project at Knappagh Road close to Sligo town centre, despite objections by local residents' groups.
Shafin Development, owned by Shane Filan and his brother Finbarr, will shortly go ahead with the construction of the 80-bed facility, which it hopes to complete by next June.
The brothers are also about to begin construction of a 50-bed nursing home in Dromahair and a neighbourhood centre in Carraroe at a combined cost of ¤10m.
The three developments could create upwards of 300 jobs and inject ¤6m or more into the local economy, the brothers have estimated.
"That's similar to a factory opening in Sligo, so there is something to be positive about," said Shane.
But planning permission for the nursing home did not receive universal approval. Residents living next to the proposed home yesterday expressed concerns that An Bord Pleanala had excluded observations made by the HSE as a condition of the planning permission.
Rathedmond Residents' Association spokesman Jim O'Sullivan said residents would not rule out seeking a judicial review if their fears were not allayed.
However, Finbarr Filan insisted the home would meet the required standards.

WESTLIFE HIT THE TOP FIVE IN THE IRISH CHART WITH €35M
The foursome have just been named as the fifth richest entertainers in the country, with an impressive €35m fortune to their names. Throughout their lengthy career, the boys have racked up an impressive collection of number one hits, stellar album sales -- and a fortune most people can only dream of.
While their counterparts in the top five of this weekend's Sunday Times Irish Rich list are all seasoned performers who have been working for two decades or more, Westlife are relative newcomers to the scene in comparison.
However, in spite of the vast fortune they have amassed in recent years, they still have a thing or two to learn from legendary rockers U2, who ranked at the top of the list of Ireland's richest entertainers.
The iconic band, alongside manager Paul McGuinness, have amassed a staggering fortune of €487m in the past 30 years, earning €7m alone last year.
While the Lord Of The Dance himself, Michael Flatley, came in a respectable second place, his income still took a hit in the last year -- as he earned €5.7m less than in 2008.
But his lavish lifestyle is unlikely to remain affected by the loss as he is still worth a whopping €274m.
Legendary singer Enya (48) has earned an impressive €1.2m since the release of her greatest hits album last year.
The notoriously private Donegal native earned most of her fortune through her phenomenal record sales, as she doesn't tour.
And Lady In Red singer Chris de Burgh (61) is still making other crooners green with envy after placing fourth on the list with his impressive €35m fortune, adding €1.2 million to his earnings in the last year alone.
Joining them in the top five is Dalkey-based Van Morrison with €57m.
Westlife’s new Celebrity Sunday show on 2FM Pesan Baru
Monday Bank Holiday May 3rd will see all four Westlife members take the DJ hot-seat in 2fm’s Dublin studios for three full and exclusive 2fm shows. Nicky and Shane will take the 9-12 slot, while Mark and Kian will take the 5-7 slot. Meanwhile the entire band will take over the 12 to 3 slot on the day.
Westlife’s Nicky Byrne made Irish web-history recently when his 2fm Celebrity Sunday slots trended at #3 worldwide on Twitter. Westlife Day follows hot on the heels of that success and arrives in the middle to 2fm’s new listener campaign. The new 2fm TV ad, running as part of the current re-launch of the station, is receiving big endorsements on line.

Following Nicky Snr's sudden passing Nicky was back two weeks later on the promotional grind for the new album, Where We Are. Nicky looked tired and thin but it was he says just the distraction he needed.
So, what's it like being back?
Shane: It's great being back. A year off is a long time doing nothing. Gillian had a baby a year ago so we were getting used to having another baby; it was a big change in the family.
And now there's an even bigger change on the way...
Shane: There is! Gillian is due our third in February; She was pregnant twice in the year off! We are very excited about it, she thinks it's a girl but I have a funny feeling it's another boy. One of us is right!
2009 has been a bad year for Westlife.
Shane: We started 2009 with all our dads and now two of them are gone - it's been a really weird year for deaths. Stephen's death was horrific; I still can't believe it - he was only 33. It made us realise how short life is.
Nicky, how are you coping?
I'm doing okay, publicly, but I have my moments as does anyone who has lost someone. I always felt that life was too good. The band have been flying for 10 years, I'm blessed with two gorgeous kids, happily married, big house, nice few quid in the bank; I always thought something would have to go wrong and then it did.
How's your mum holding up?
She's a strong woman but she was going with dad since she was 14 years old. Mum was the boss but dad always depended on her. We are all around her trying to make it better. It's tough on my brother as well; he's only 19 and still at home, but it's a blessing that he is because if she was completely on her own it would be 50 times harder. We're coping but it's the finality of it all that we can't get into our heads - it's not a dream, he's not coming back. I can't understand how I'm never going to talk to or see him again, that breaks me and if I'm on my own and start thinking like that I need to get out.
Kian you've had a pretty awful year too...
It's been pretty weird. The day we had the final auditions for the girl band, that's when my dad had his brain hemorrhage - he was 63. A few days later we found out he had a brain tumor, he was operated on, the tumor was taken out, he had chemotherapy through Christmas, and then in February they realised that the tumor had come back and was bigger and stronger. Jodi and I were due to get married on the 8th May and we were trying to figure out if it was the right thing to go ahead or to not.
You went ahead with the wedding in Barbados in May as planned. Was it hard to enjoy it with your father absent and very unwell?
Because it was in a different country, we didn't forget about it but we could put it out of our minds a little. It was an amazing time and there is nothing I would change about my wedding. We really lived it up but came back to a very harsh reality that dad was really dying. Jodi's grandfather passed away three weeks after the wedding, then my dad, then Stephen Gately, then Nicky's dad - so many deaths this year. I just want 2009 to be over and I don't want to be at another funeral this year. Jodi had never been to a funeral until my grandmother's last Christmas and this year she's been at five. It's not right.
Kian, how do you think Nicky is doing?
As best as can be expected. It was better for Nicky's dad to go suddenly but it was tougher on the family. If I had the choise of telling my dad to walk across the street and get hit by a bus or get cancer and spend the next year in bed dying, I'd choose the bus. I've leanred a few things about death - I understand the comment, 'Sorry for your loss,' but I almost feel like saying, 'Don't be sorry for me, be sorry for my dad, Nicky's dad. Be sorry for Stephen Gately'. They're gone, we're still here.
Mark, how have this year's losses affected you?
Everything you do is for your family and loved ones so it defeats the purpose if you are so busy you never get the chance to see them. As I approach 30 that's more where I see my life, I want to balance career success with career satisfaction. And it's not all about selling as many albums as you can no matter what the cost. It's about selling albums you are proud of.
You are proud of this album though...
Shane: The last few years we've been cover heavy and a bit lazy. As a band we weren't happy; we thought we were underachieving.
Mark: We allowed ourselves to go too far down that play-it-safe record company path. There is a balance between playing it safe and the record company getting what they want. Music should be organic not clinical.
Where We Are has a bigger sound...
Shane: It's more epic. There's more variety and more tempo; I think it's a bit edgier and sexier. The fans have been waiting for this for years. I honestly think they have been starved.
This album also features Mark's first co-write with Shaznay Lewis formerly of All Saints.
Shane: Mark has always been a talented writer but afraid to write for Westlife. In general Mark is insecure but he has come out of his shell a lot in the last couple of years and is a lot happier and open. He's definitely got a song-writing talent and we are going to encourage him to do more.
Mark, are you really shy and insecure?
I don't know but this has given me a boost. That's another thing that the year off has done for me, it allowed me decide what was important, what made me happy and equally what made me unhappy.
So, what's with the X perfume?
Nicky: It's a box set with body wash and pefume. There are pictures of us on it so you can look at us as you wash yourself!
Are Gillian, Georgina and Jodi smelling of X?
Shane: Oh yeah!
Nicky: The three wives were all involved in the process; it took us ages to decide on a scent.
Shane: We had meeting after meeting and we weren't happy with a smell for a long time but all eventually agreed on this one. It's a lovely smell, kind of lemony, light and fruity.
So Mark, you're the only unmarried. Any plans?
It's a natural progression to any relationship but not something that we are planning at the moment. Kevin is in very good form. He's been getting his teeth stuck into photography. I wouldn't push him if I didn't think he was good but I genuinely think he is.
What's the plan for Christmas, Kian - yours or Jodi's?
This time it's my turn to be in England so we'll have Christmas with Jodi's family. Last year it was more important for me to be with my family because we knew it was going to be dad's last Christmas. But it is our first Christmas as a married couple and I've got to keep it happy.
You and Jodi still in honeymoon bliss?
We never really got into honeymoon bliss to be honest. We are only slowly falling into it now which is weird six months later, and we haven't physically had a honeymoon yet but we'll probably do that at Christmas.
Mark: I'm going to be in Sligo for Christmas. Kevin's family is coming over - I'm very excited. Christmas can be a bit monotonous going through the motions, but we are going all out with this one. Kevin is practically good enough to be a cook so we're doing it ourselves. It's going to be an Irish Christmas with a couple little elements of his own tradition as well.
Nicky, will Christmas lift the mood for your family a little?
Yeah, it will be hard, but Jay and Rocco are so excited so that will definitely lighten the mood a little. The Aherns and Byrnes will all be together so there'll be strength numbers.
Shane?
It will be a big family Christmas, Santa Claus stopping by! I like Christmas. Who doesn't!
And the key to that will be keeping their most famous fan happy.
The lads, still our top-selling boy band after 11 years, are pop guru Simon's breakthrough success story.
And they constantly remind the record company chief he was not always the stellar name he is today.
In the final day of our Westlife series, Shane Filan reveals: "The big reason we still do so well is down to our relationship with Simon.
"We have worked together for 11 years and things go from strength to strength. Simon speaks highly of us, which means the world."
But Kian Egan points out: "We used to slag him off about his shoes and his high trousers before anybody knew who he was.
"We used to slag off the shoes so badly, the big heels. Cobbler's shoes, we called them.
"We used to pull his trousers down lower and pull the T-shirt down and rip the p**s out of him, mocking his posh accent.
"As soon as he got on TV, people saw exactly what we saw and started to do the same thing."
Shane adds: "We were one of the first bands on Simon's S Records label, which he sold to BMG for £22million.
"He got a lot of money then before TV took over."
Despite almost 50million record sales, 14 number one songs and a host of sold-out tours, Westlife are still hungry for more.
"We're pocket change to what Simon makes annually but we've got history with him," says Shane.
"The hardest thing to do in our situation is sustain success.
"Every year is like a mountain to climb for us, even though people expect us to succeed now. We s**t ourselves before the midweek chart - we are still so ambitious."
The past year has seen the band rocked by tragedy. They have been hit by what they call "a big wave of death" that has struck their friends and family.
The recent loss of close pal and Boyzone singer Stephen Gately hit them hard, but Kian also lost his father, as did bandmate Nicky Byrne.
But with their usual upbeat, positive attitude they are now even more determined to appreciate everything they have and continue to enjoy life to the full.
Westlife have spent the best part of a year out of the spotlight, but in my interview with Shane, Kian, Nicky and Mark Feehily it was obvious they have used this testing 12 months to grow stronger.
Kian told me about the terrifying moment they discovered their good pal Stephen had passed away and Shane, 30, says: "Until then, we hadn't really thought about people from our generation not being here.
"As singers we are always thinking about the next album, the next tour, the family growing.
"You don't think about being dead. You would never think that about someone in your own band.
"If one of us died... it's a terrible thought but that would be it. Over. We couldn't carry on as a band.
"For us, it makes you realise how important the other members of the group - your dearest friends - are to you, and it makes you appreciate life an awful lot more."
Kian, 29, adds: "I had been out in the local with mates, gone home and fallen asleep on the couch.
"A mate rang me and told me about Stephen and I thought it was nonsense. I rang Louis Walsh (Boyzone's and Westlife's manager) and sure enough got the same response. It was truly awful.
"It has been a really tough year. On top of that both my dad and Nicky's dad died either side of that. My dad was 64 and had been sick for a year.
"My mum said to me we are at that age now where we start losing people.
"My grandmother, my wife Jodie's grandfather, Nicky's dad, my dad, Stephen...
"My mum said in her life, death sadly comes in waves and we are experiencing one of those big waves now. At the funeral of Stephen the four of us sat together with our partners.
"Brian (ex-Westlife member McFadden) happened to be sat in front of us. I remember looking at Brian and just feeling so sad, realising life is too short.
"We all felt the same - like we all needed to give him a big hug. I felt so sad towards him.
"Once the Boyzone speeches came out we were in pieces."
Shane adds: "It was after 1am when I found out about Stephen. I rang Louis and it was like 'boom'.
"He told me it was right and said he couldn't speak. I will never forget it as long as I live.
"In Ireland Stephen was a massive icon, a true pop star. He was one of us and he was dead.
"It just doesn't happen, so it was truly upsetting and tragic.
"We appreciate each other so much more since.
"We're thankful for what we've got and for having each other because life is so precious, and sometimes you can forget that."
The Irish singer turned band manager said that he won't allow Jodi Albert and her colleagues to be dressed up in an “over-sexed” manner like Derry girl Nadine, Cheryl Cole and company.
Egan took a pop at the best-selling girlband, while explaining that he wanted his outfit to have a “classy catwalk, Gucci look”.
Kian made his comments during the band's interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.
He also told of how he will be “very controlling” when it comes to his band's image.
When asked whether there were any outfits he wouldn't like Jodi to wear, he replied: “Yes, I'll certainly be very controlling of their image because I think a lot of the girl bands now are way too tarted up.”
And he explained that his wife wouldn't be too “over-sexed” like Girls Aloud.
“If you look at Girls Aloud's last tour, it's too over-sexed. Jodi's is more of a classy catwalk, Gucci look. That's the sort of sexiness I want to achieve.”
